The first plenary session set a general framework on issues addressed all along the event. In the presence of various European and French figures, the notion of European citizenship has been put into perspective: lecture on citizenship throughout the European history, round table about a recent survey on the sense of European citizenship. The European Commissioner, Jan Figel, in charge of Education, Training, Culture and Youth, Ségolène Royal, President of the Regional Council Poitou-Charentes and Jean-Pierre Joyet, State Secretary for European Affairs highlighted the institutional approach on civil society After the workshops, the session on Saturday has been an occasion to synthesize. Following a thematic approach - Mobility, Dialogue, Participation - Friday's debates have been globally restituted. Afterwards, a round table on the role of associations as essential intermediary bodies in the building of an active and participative citizenship was organized. Recommendations to the European Commission and Parliament as well as to the French Presidency of the European Union have emerged out of this synthesis. The official closing was announced by Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin, Minister of Health, Youth, Sports and Voluntary sector, pointing out the role of organized civil society within the French and European institutions. |
